Police Horses Improve And Maintain Good Public Relations.

  • A mounted officer is six times more likely than an officer on foot to be approached by a citizen.
  • People are attracted to horses which are much less threatening than a police officer with a K-9 police dog.
  • Horses are a great way to start an officer-citizen dialogue and to strengthen community relations.

Police Horses Enhance Officers' Patrol And Efficiency.

  • Mounted officers and their horses create a high-profile police presence while being a positive, friendly, and fun connection to a community.
  • While mounted, officers have a better view of their environment and can be more proactive while helping citizens.
  • Mounted officers aren’t distracted with driving a patrol car, so they can focus and observe more efficiently.
  • Horses can go where cars, bicycles, and motorcycles can’t go, and can handle rough off-road terrain and weather.
  • Police horses are great crowd control! People will move for a horse much faster than they will for an officer on foot. One mounted officer and his horse are worth ten officers on foot!

Police Horses Help Departments "Go Green."

  • Horses don’t require oil or gas like a patrol car does, they’re not noisy, and they don’t expel chemical exhaust into the atmosphere.
  • Horses don’t have the same high maintenance costs much as other police equipment.
